Musicians from Eastern Nepal find Growth and Success in Kathmandu

Subarna-24Subarna Limbu is a well-known Nepali musician and a bit of a legend, recognized for his 40 years of experience in some of the earliest modern rock bands in India and Nepal. He is said to have introduced the bass guitar to contemporary Nepali music. He has performed with early bands such as Diamond from Darjeeling and Brotherhood. Currently, he plays and sings with Prism at various 5 Star hotels.

Thomas Thulung Rai is a modern Nepali singer, composer, and sound recordist with 10 years of experience in the industry. He has released two albums, including the most recent, “My Feelings.” His single, “Chupama Chupa,” has been made into a music video which can be seen on NepaliTube. Rai has discovered that, while he enjoys singing, he enjoys the recording process even more. Eight years ago, he opened his own recording studio, Grace Recording Studio, where he records both his own work and the work of his musical peers.

These two musicians have similar roots, having originated from remote eastern Nepal and migrated to Kathmandu in search of work. Both share the story that life in the city provided them the opportunity to explore music and develop greater skills, experience, and passion. Their musical paths have brought them together to the same neighborhood and recording studio, where they collaborate during this stage of their musical careers.
